Sainsbury’s New Flagship Store
DescriptionBreathable render from Limetec has been chosen for Sainsbury’s new flagship green store in Dartmouth, which was designed by architects Stride Treglown. Built with respect for the use of natural resources, including energy, water, waste, timber and land, Baumit spray applied lime render from Limetec was their obvious choice when it came to facing the walls of the store. Aiming to be one of the first supermarkets to achieve a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating, all products used on the project had to be BRE Green Guide A or B rated. To help achieve this, Baumit was specified due to its environmental credentials. Providing long term durability and weather protection to the building’s timber framed structure, it is breathable with the ability to accommodate slight movements in a building caused by settlement or thermal shock. Baumit renders are suitable for spray or hand application as two coat systems and while contributing to a healthy internal environment, are economic and a practical alternative to renders containing gypsum or Portland cements that have little or no vapour permeable qualities. Employing a plethora of environmentally responsible products and techniques, and where possible recycled or recyclable materials, the pioneering store will save 40% of its overall CO2 emissions, use 60% less water, eliminate the use of gas on site, and reduce the energy required from the National Grid by 50% and more.
